Story of My Prawn Masala and Recipe

As we all know most of the part of India is attached to the sea like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal where you can see the variety and different species of the fish. Every species of fish has their different own names and I hardly know few names. One of the name is Prawn which is a common name. The term "Prawn" is used particularly in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Common wealth nations especially those with commercial significance in the fishing industry.

Prawn Masala
Prawns
Among every fish, Prawn is the fish which I always remember. Yes, only because of its exoskeleton, 10 legs and  weird eyes (i.e a member of the order decapoda). And also because of its different texture of boneless meat.

I used to avoid eating fish (other than Prawn) only because of its tiny little bones which i used to find so difficult managing it while eating fish. But that's the story of my younger age. Today i have learnt eating it and i equally enjoy. But as i said earlier Prawns are the only fish i prefer over other. It is easy to cook and also easy to eat unlike other fish. So, here I'm preparing Prawn Masala which i have learnt preparing it from my mom. She cooks amazing Prawn Masala.

In different states, different community of people prepare it differently with their own style but here I'm following my mom's simple and easy steps for preparing Prawn Masala.
Let's start the Prawn Masala recipe with he ingredients first than rest of the process.

Ingredients

  1. Prawns  (Medium size)                  300gm
  2. Poppy Seeds/Mustard seeds        100gm
  3. Mustard Oil
  4. Onion                                              2
  5. Tomato                                           2
  6. Green Chilly                                  3 or 4
  7. Turmeric Powder                          1/2 tea spoon
  8. Red Chilly Powder                       1/2 tea spoon
  9. Coriander Powder                        1 tea spoon
  10. Cumin Powder                              1 tea spoon
  11. Sugar                                            1/2 tea spoon
  12. Ginger Garlic paste                      1 tea spoon
  13. Salt (as per taste)
  14. Coriander Leaves for garnish.
The above mentioned quantity is for 1 to 2 person sufficiently. Here I'm using paste of Poppy seeds which is totally optional. No worries if there is no Poppy seeds. We can still cook our Prawn Masala without it. Here I'm adding it because i love the flavour and it also helps in thickening my gravy or masala. We can use paste of black Mustard seeds in place of poppy seeds where the purpose is same. People who like the taste of Mustard can use paste of mustard.
